Metaverse edition

About this edition..

Immersive technologies have developed and expanded in recent years to different areas of daily life—from education and work to healthcare—making it essential to analyze how these transformations impact people’s rights in Latin America, the different ways these rights are protected, and how these developments will advance in the future. The new edition of GuIA explores the implications of the metaverse in Latin America, focusing primarily on its challenges and opportunities in the Latin American context, and considering factors such as access to technology, interoperability, data regulation, governance, and the development of inclusive digital infrastructures.

For this edition, two discussion workshops were held: one focused on privacy and personal data protection, and another on interoperability and infrastructure. Both workshops featured multidisciplinary groups of specialists who discussed the impact, benefits and opportunities of the metaverse in Latin America. The resulting reports include a summary of the discussion, as well as preliminary conclusions and recommendations for the region. This edition also includes a report, co-authored with C-Minds, that provides a first look at the metaverse and analyzes its implications in various fields, with a specific focus on the region.

This edition was led by Carolina Aguerre and Maia Levy Daniel.
